This artwork is based on Lisa Wisse. I had Yellow Oxide as a base color. I drew the hills in with the horizon line. I dry brushed the highlights on some of the hills.

Wow is my first comment. The way that the sky really give the feeling of distance and light is powerful. I can see the sun behind the cloud peeking through. It looks finished in this blog post what part is a work in progress? Are you a senior student? It would be great to have more posts of your art as it develops.
ReplyDeleteI agree. This is a stunning piece of art. The difference between light and dark draws you into the picture in a way that defies gravity! I feel like I am flying towards the mountain as I look at this painting. This is a good think as I love mountains!
ReplyDeleteIt would be great to see any updates to this painting! Ka mau te wehi!

DeleteKia ora Jade,
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely amazing, I certainly wish I had a creative eye as you obviously do. I really enjoy the contrast between the sky and the mountains. Like Dave said what are the next steps to your artwork? Your painting reminds me of one of my favourite New Zealand artists - Grahame Sydney, have you explored any of his artwork?
I really look forward to you sharing more of your artwork on your blog.

ReplyDeleteI came across your post from where I am currently in Coromandel -North Island- and was very impressed with your work. We have a lot of artists in our community and some stunning scenery of both hills and beaches to inspire them. I think this piece would fit well in with the art I see on display in our community hall here.
I do appreciate you taking the time to share your creativity online for more people to enjoy.
I look forward to following your blog.

Kia ora Jade, our students here at Hornby High School are working on landscape too. The warm purple tones in the sky are just beautiful. And your horizon line of the mountain range has been really well executed, such a lovely line. We might share some of what our students are doing with you and encourage them to talk with you via your blog. I hope you continue on with painting next year :-) Whaea Rowena Clemence, HoD Visual Arts - Hornby High School
ReplyDeleteMōrena Jade,
ReplyDeleteVERY IMPRESSED with your Lisa Wisse inspired artwork. I love the colour and shading in the sky and the contrast of the hills. Like Mark, I also wish I was more creative. Have you always been an artist? Do you have pieces of your art on display at home? I would love to see more of your art shared on your blog. Thanks for sharing.

Kia ora Jade,
ReplyDeleteTo be honest I had never heard of Lisa Wisse. I took a quick look at some her work and I think you have nailed it. The folds of the hills and what looks like a higher peak really work...and then the sky is looking a lot like some of the Wisse images I saw. Do you plan to have some more light on the hills or are they in shadow?
